Phillip Kern

Mr. Kern founded Kern Architects in 2019 after 15 years working for a commercial design-build firm.  While at the design-build firm, Phillip led the Architecture division from 2011-2019 serving as the Project Architect on both public and private projects as large as $20M.  Working for a design-build firm required Mr. Kern to work closely with general contractors and subcontractors throughout the design phases to determine early what would be feasible within each project budget.  He is a self-proclaimed “numbers guy”, which is unique in the design-focused profession. His focus is on producing and maintaining detailed budgets to limit “surprises” that tend to derail the success of building projects.  Phillip takes pride in the relationships he has developed with Clients, Contractors, and Subcontractors.  These relationships continue to result in repeat business that is consistently delivered on time and on budget!

Phillip is a graduate of LSU’s School of Architecture.  He has recently served as President of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Baton Rouge Chapter and is also active on East Baton Rouge Parish Schools’ selection board for Architects and Contractors.  When he’s not in the office, Mr. Kern enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.  He is an active parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.  When time allows, he enjoys fishing, golfing and hunting.
